Job Opening: Music Director and Conductor

Remuneration: $5,400 - $5,900 per season

About Us: Founded in 1984 and based out of Woodroffe United Church, Divertimento is a dedicated amateur orchestra in Ottawa that comprises approximately 60 members. Divertimento is seeking a new Music Director/Conductor to help define its path as it heads toward its 50th anniversary. As Music Director: The Music Director shall serve as musical leader and advocate for Divertimento. They shall be responsible for all programming, adjudicating auditions, and community outreach while reporting to the Divertimento Executive.

 

As Conductor: The Conductor shall be responsible for developing and adhering to rehearsal schedules, conducting all rehearsals and concerts, and appointing Concertmasters and section Principals when applicable.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

● Experience conducting musical groups, orchestral experience preferred

● Significant knowledge of musical theory

● Broad and deep knowledge of orchestral repertoire

● Strong leadership and communication skills with all sections in the orchestra

● Ability and willingness to work collaboratively within the existing structure of Divertimento ● Available Thursday evenings from 7:30-10:00 pm during the concert season (minimum September-April excluding holidays, with option to extend)

Semi-finalists will be contacted to arrange an interview. Finalists may be invited to conduct the orchestra. All finalists will be contacted with the final decision.
